Universal Forest Products Transportation Specialist in Windsor, Colorado


  • Preferred bachelor degree in logistics or related discipline or equivalent
  • One to three years of experience working with flat bed carriers; experience as agent, broker, or load planner is preferred
  • One to three years of experience negotiating and managing rates with common carriers
  • Working knowledge on Microsoft office products
  • Working knowledge of standard DOT concepts, regulations, practices and procedures

  • Manages, communicates, and coordinates the movement of goods with internal and external transportation companies to meet service and cost expectations

  • Works with carriers, personnel, and systems to provide timely and accurate information to internal and external customers
  • Interacts effectively with management, sales, buyers, and production departments regarding costs, services, and industry capabilities
  • Organizes and schedules inbound and outbound loads within defined geographic region
  • Coordinates with buyers, sales, and production on carrier capacity, timing and costs
  • Reviews orders within the transportation and purchase order systems
  • Communicates load availability and capabilities with UFP plants for loads shipping via company equipment and drivers
  • Manages the routing of orders and tendering of freight to carriers with appropriate delivery instructions, consistent with customer requirements
  • Takes action upon all calls for tracing and/or expediting orders
  • Answers questions and resolves supplier and customer issues with UFP transportation providers
  • Assists in development of a qualified carrier base
  • Negotiates document and implement rates for transportation services
  • Maintains lane rate information while managing costs
  • Establishes expectations and review results for rates and service with primary carriers
  • Answers questions and resolves UFP buyer and sales transportation
  • Files and manages claims for any freight loss or damage through to resolution
  • Prepares reports and correspondence and other duties as required
