The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a full-time District Equipment Manager for District 1 located in Laramie, Wyoming. The District Equipment Manager is responsible for repairing and maintaining a safe, high-quality equipment fleet by providing properly-trained, highly-skilled supervisors, equipment technicians, and the tools to accomplish set goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Manages all work activities of employees engaged in maintenance and repair of all equipment and vehicles within the district.

  • Visits each work site on a frequent basis to evaluate efficiency and productivity of work.

  • Maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment assignments within the district.

  • Provides leadership, supervision and motivation to all district shop personnel.

  • Evaluates and assesses equipment repairs and replacement needs.

  • Submits work order authority for major projects that should be capitalized.

  • Schedules and provides a wide variety of training to meet request of employees and supervisors.

  • Manages and administers the district fleet and overhead budgets.

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe equipment fleet and working environment.



  • Knowledge of all WYDOT Policies and Procedures and where to find all of them.

  • Knowledge of state budgetary procedures.

  • Knowledge of fleet management practices and procedures.



Bachelor's Degree (typically in Management)



1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Equipment Program Coordinator -Transportation


Education & Experience Substitution:

4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Equipment Program Coordinator-Transporation

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Ability to obtain a CDL

Necessary Special Requirements


  • Some travel required.


  • FLSA: Exempt
