Sr. Technical Marketing Engineer – Big Data
Hewlett Packard Enterprise Storage & BigData Division is looking for a BigData Solutions Engineer to be part of our growing Technical Marketing Engineering team.
Join a WW-distributed team of experts and work as a BigData subject matter expert on HPE's Storage solutions in that space. Work with field solution architects to consult on BigData solutions. Contribute to winning large opportunities by providing subject matter expertise to the account team including information on competitive strategies and technological details and differentiators. Work with engineering and WW teams to ensure customer requirements are addressed in future product developments. You will be consulting with field teams around customer opportunities and conduct technical training as well as represent our Big Data solutions at conferences.
This position is for a senior engineer who will work with HPE Storage R&D, Product Management and Marketing and our field sales/SA teams to develop and deliver technical collateral (architectures, papers, videos, webinars etc.) in order to train and enable presales, partners and customers on HPE Big Data solutions. This position requires professional interaction with multiple HPE internal teams, external partners, customers, and industry experts as part of our enablement approach.
Work with engineering and other WW teams to ensure customer requirements are fed back into product & solution development.
Contribute with competitive know-how to ensure successful closing of customer opportunities
Work directly with R&D, Product Management and Marketing to research and develop NPI presales enablement solutions that includes technical whitepapers and presentations, architectures, videos, social media content and webinars.
Provide technical training and enablement to presales Solution Architects (SAs), business partners, and customers through face to face engagements or using various training platforms
Assist account teams and field SAs in creating BigData solution architectures, designs and sizings
Engage with customers (presentations, workshops) to consult on BigData solutions.
Support technical forums, industry events, and other speaking events and industry shows
Stay abreast of current industry technology, trends, and competition, particularly in the BigData space and be seen as a thought leader and a go-to resource for these topics
Assist presales with complex RFI/RFPs opportunities and Proof of Concept (POC) evaluations
Design, setup and maintain lab development hardware and software for in-house testing and external training
Education and Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
Minimum 5+ years industry experience ideally in various roles
fluent English language skills
relevant industry certifications a plus (e.g. Hortonworks, Cloudera, BigData OpenSource contributions)
Develop quality technical presentations to be used in training or as sales tools for the in-country field SAs
Prepare technology-specific and vertical-focused training content
Work with customers, partners and field SAs in a trusted technical expert role
Provide SWAT team style support with specific customer/partner escalations
Strategize with management to help design and drive appropriate technical marketing strategies
Willingness for (international) business travel (20%)
Ability to clearly communicate to peers and large sized audiences
Excellent command of written English and visual communication (presentation skills), including the ability to construct and tell a powerful story
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Self-starter, able to manage multiple projects and effectively prioritize scheduling of activities
Customer facing experience a must (consulting and/or presales)
SME specific knowledge and skills
Sound knowledge and experience with BigData architectures (HW and OpenSource SW stacks like Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, noSQL).
Wide range of technical understanding of data management inclusive of applications
Expertise designing/implementing BigData/IoT environments, data lakes, storage tiering in such environments
Know-how about the BigData market, its key players and SW stacks
Strong Unix/Linux Operating System knowledge required
Prefer experience with multiple flavors of Linux; with SLES, RedHat, CentOS, and Ubuntu preferred.
Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux system administration such as NFS filesystems, Samba, Linux server configurations (including CentOS, Ubuntu), TCP/IP network, DNS, DHCP, and Kerberos/SSL
Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining lab environments.
Experience with installing and troubleshooting Open Source Software and Open Source Platforms, including: Spark Ecosystem, Hadoop Ecosystem, Apache Storm, Apache Flink, Kafka, etc.
Administrative experience with HDFS, GPFS, Lustre, or any other parallel filesystem
Proficient with HPC programming/scripting languages (Python, Perl, PHP, C, C++, Fortran, BASH) a plus
Proficiency with Big Data programming/scripting languages (PIG, R, Scala, Java, C++, Ruby, SQL|NoSQL etc.) a plus
Knowledge of data streaming technologies
Marketing and/or product management experience a plus
AWS, Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes knowledge/training/certification a plus
NoSQL database experience a plus
