Description of Work Unit
The Department of Journalism and Media Communication teaches classes in journalism and technical communication skills and prepares students for careers in television news and video production, news-editorial journalism, public relations/communication management, and technical-specialized journalism. Faculty also conduct extensive funded research and provide professional liaison and outreach programs to Colorado media and communication departments.
The department of Journalism and Media Communication is seeking two, part-time research coordinators with experience in technical communication in the field of natural resources management . This position exists to provide technical communication support to the Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate (NRSS) Office of the National Park Service through the Effective Communication of Natural Resource Conditions in Parks project – a joint effort between the Department of Journalism and Media Communication at Colorado State University and the NRSS. The Effective Communication of Natural Resources Conditions in Parks project exists to support communication efforts of scientific information that is targeted for use by resource managers within the National Park Service system as they make management decisions regarding park resources. The research coordinator(s) hired through this announcement will provide high-level formatting and editing support for research publications produced by the Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate office of the National Park Service. This position will complete essential technical communication duties for the Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate Office of the National Park Service. Technical communication duties primarily involve editing, formatting, and writing of technical publications. Other supporting tasks will be related to project outreach and marketing, creating and monitoring a publication database system, creating materials (e.g., websites) for effective display of research findings, and coordinating activities related to the Effective Communication of Natural Resource Conditions in Parks project. This is an ongoing project primarily intended to provide technical editing and formatting support for a range of technical publications. The research coordinator(s) will report to Assistant Professor, Ashley Anderson and will work in conjunction with the NRSS office of National Park Service to monitor the progress of this position.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and at least one (1) year of professional experience related to technical writing and editing are required.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Master’s degree in a field related to natural resources, communication, outreach, education, or leadership is preferred.
