About the Principal Security Software Engineer - Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI)

HPE Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) is expanding its security development team, and is seeking highly qualified and motivated candidates for a Principal Security Software Engineer to be based in one of the following cities; no relocation assistance available.

Westborough, MA

Ft Collins, CO

Raleigh, NC

Durham, NC

Morrisville, NC

In this role, you will work as part of the HCI security development team responsible for handling the security of SimpliVity’s offerings, actively participating in scrum ceremonies including daily stand-up, backlog grooming, sprint review, sprint planning, sprint retrospectives, etc.


As the Principal Security Software Engineer for Hyper-Converged Infrastructure, you will:

  • work as an integral part of the HCI security development scrum team

  • work closely with the architecture and security advisory board on security-related issues

  • work on the development of security-related features such as encryption and Kerberos support

  • support integration with third-party applications and operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and VMWare

  • perform other duties assigned


The ideal candidate will be an advocate for being Agile and will embrace working within the Scrum development lifecycle.

Prior experience with software security and the use of encryption systems within Windows and Linux are required.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field

  • Advanced degree a plus

  • 10+ years’ software development experience

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • 6+ years’ experience in developing security systems

  • Experience in certificate management encryption techniques and key management (e.g. NIST SP800-57)

  • Knowledge of operating system security integration for Windows and Linux

  • C/C++ and Java programming experience, including strong tools knowledge

  • Proven ability to understand, define, and articulate complex software design including embedded algorithm implementation

  • Strong analysis and debugging skills

  • Experience in porting or customizing an existing licensable stack

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge and Skills Desired

  • Agile or scrum trainings or certifications

  • Experience integrating systems into Kerberos environments

  • Knowledge of federal and international security standards such as FIPS 140-2

  • Experience with OpenSSL and the OpenSSL FIPS Object Module

  • Experience with Common Criteria and DoD UC-APL

  • Experience with RBAC systems and multi-tenancy

  • Knowledge of Thrift
