Description of Work Unit

The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) oversees and administers financial aid, billing, residency, and student employment. OFA operates under the Division of Enrollment and Access to provide student-centered assistance by working under federal, state, and university guidance, enabling students to enroll, manage their finances, achieve their academic goals, and graduate in a timely manner. Seventy-five percent of CSU students are financial aid recipients, and OFA disburses over $300 million of financial aid annually. Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director for Client Services, the Assistant Director, Student Success, supervises two coordinators and four senior counselors. This position also coordinates all outreach activities, both on and off campus. This function is accomplished by overseeing the communications and outreach for The Office of Financial Aid.

Required Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with two years of full-time professional experience (excluding student employee experience) working in a Title IV Financial Aid Office with a demonstrated knowledge of federal student financial aid regulations.

Excellent written communications skills, as demonstrated by application materials submitted.

Demonstrated experience delivering excellent customer service to students, families, and both on- and off-campus constituents.

Demonstrated experience developing and presenting on financial aid and scholarship programs.

Demonstrated experience advising students on complex financial aid and scholarship issues in individual and group settings.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Master’s degree in higher education or related field

Five years professional experience in a Title IV Financial Aid Office with a demonstrated knowledge of federal student financial aid regulations

Demonstrated experience managing full-time, professional financial aid staff

Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner student information system.

Demonstrated ability to produce detailed reports and marketing plans for high-quality customer service.

A strong understanding of the Land Grant Mission of Colorado State University.

A personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, and allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.

Develops training materials and instructs department staff by conducting group and individual training sessions.

Resource for students and staff, including work-study students, for on-campus resources to help students with immediate needs, including but not limited to, food insecurities, housing assistance, or other personal concerns.

Collaborate, build and foster relationships with on-campus constituents including Residence Life, Admissions, Student Leadership Community Engagement and other on-campus partners.

Job Duty Category Outreach Coordination


Coordinate public relations, marketing, and outreach for the Office of Financial Aid (OFA). Prepare and deliver presentations, and answer questions from audience as OFA subject expert. Train staff to create presentations, coordinate the scheduling of staff for various outreach events and presentations. Strategize with OFA leadership to determine which events in which OFA will participate.

Supervises and directs two coordinators and four senior counselors in Client Services. Manage, coach, motivate, mentor, and staff retention advocate. Provide verbal and written direction, training, leadership, performance evaluation, and addressing informal grievances.

Publications, marketing, collaborating with various campus constituents including the Office of Admissions, Alliance Partnerships/Access Center, Student Affairs, Orientation and Transition Programs, Parent and Family Programs, and CASA.
