Description and Functions

This position is essential to the State of Wyoming by providing safe, reliable, and proper maintenance on approximately 1600 motor vehicles for over 100 State agencies. This position is an entry-level mechanic position that provides basic mechanic and detailing services to State owned vehicles in the Cheyenne area and assists drivers as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
Performs minor maintenance, including but not limited to wiper blades; batteries; oil and filter changes; tire rotations, inspections, and replacement; air filter replacement; fluid top offs; inspection of components for damage or wear; replaces brake pads, resurfaces or replaces rotors; repairs or replaces seals and gaskets as needed; replaces or repairs struts, shocks, steering linkage, or related components.
Records all maintenance and repairs in the computerized maintenance tracking system.
Cleans and details exterior, interior, and engine compartments.
Provides shuttle service for state employees.
Provides support to wrecker/service calls.
Assists Senior Mechanics as needed.
Installs, troubleshoots, and removes GPS telematics devices.
Performs new vehicle acceptance inspections.

Records all maintenance and repairs in the computerized maintenance system.
Preference may be given to applicants who have previous maintenance experience with light duty vehicles, including SUVs, cars, and pickups.
Preference may be given to applicants with previous experience using computerized maintenance tracking systems.
**Agency requires that the successful candidate have a valid driver's license.
Knowledge of light and heavy-duty automotive equipment and their parts.
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, air conditioning, hydraulic, and brake systems.
Knowledge of tires and wheels.
Knowledge of grease and oil specifications.
Knowledge of computers.
Knowledge of safety regulations.
Knowledge of towing vehicles and using the necessary equipment.
Knowledge of vehicle lifts and forklifts.
Knowledge of troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and testing gasoline, diesel, and alternative fueled vehicles.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to use computerized maintenance tracking when recording maintenance and repairs.
Ability to use a variety of customer service techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints.
Ability to operate light duty vehicles including trucks.
Ability to operate tire changing and balancing equipment.
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically Mechanics)
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Mechanics)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Ability to obtain a CDL
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, body parts, bio-hazards, potential explosives, and the elements.
May be required to lift more than 50 lbs.
All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid hourly.
May be required to furnish own basic set of hand tools.
There is a tool allowance of $50.00 per month.
